So everything is basically fine on the system, experienced the normal hiccups intalling win98 on an AMD system everything is running fine and stable until....
If I try to plug in a USB device (doesnt matter i've got 5 different items to try and they all do the same thing) Msgsrv crashes out but i can still usually use the device. ( I bet Bill G remembers this problem) And if I leave a usb item plugged in on boot up I get a "windows protection fault" and no boot up.
I've done the via install for the 686b south bridge, tried the windows patch for the keyboard/mouse usb failures on the via chipset. still no go.
I'm down to two hypothesis>One: the 500ma being pulled through the USB port is causing the crash and I need a new p/s (not demonstrated in ASUS probe, voltages appear steady). Two: windows 98 is junk(okay thats not a hypothesis) and I need to move to win2000 with the NT kernal or winXP soon to debut.
