A7M266 or A7A266

Which board do you guys think is the best buy as a DDR platform, mostly to play games but to also do some office tasks, the Asus A7M266 or the A7A266? I plan on getting PC2100 DDR RAM as well as the fastest 266 bus Thunderbird around when I get around to buying this stuff, so which board do you guys think is better?

Depends. If you want best performance then the A7M266 is the way to go (though you have to modify it to be able to adjust the mutliplier). Cost wise the A7A266 seems the better choice as it's ~$30 cheaper, but it's performance is not quite up to par.

Well the Asus A7M266 is a higher performing mobo, and the AMD760 chipset seems to have less compatibility issues then the ALI Magik1 chipset on the A7A266. On the other hand the A7A266 has multiplier control which the A7M266 lacks, and it is a cheaper board.
They are both extremely stable, and they both have a very large selection of FSB settings for overclocking.

I'm still waiting for the A7V266....

Couple that with an Athlon 4 later this summer and I'll be happy. 🙂

I would just wait a couple of months and either get a Dual AMD board like that MSI K7D Master that's been announced ($200 AMD Dual with onboard LAN and a whole bunch of other features!) or just wait for a better DDR board to come out.
