A7M266 On-board sound problem

I have just built a system using the ASUS A7M266 DDR board and am currently using the on-board sound. However, I have a problem that seems simple but I cannot solve. Music CD's only play on the right channel (speaker). I can play a video file from the Win98SE CD and the sound works perfectly. I can play MP3's and .wav files on the compter and all is well. I can plug the speakers into the front of the CD player and it works fine. I removed/reinstalled the drivers to no avail. I checked all the "balance" related settings I could find. If the Win98 CD did not play correctly, I would say maybe the cable from the CD to the MB, but that is not the case. Any Ideas?? Maybe a bad audio jack? Thanks in advance for any help you can give. 😕
I have also tried different speakers with the same results.

Well Buz2b, turns out you got screwed! You see, the on-board sound DOES NOT SUPPORT CD Audio files. You can play them, but not in stereo like any $10-20 walkman can do! No, you paid $185 for the right to go out and spend more of your $$ on a sound card and use up that PCI slot you hoped to save for future needs. What a deal! Doesn't matter that you are not a big "gamer" and didn't need an expensive add-on card for your sounds. After all, your needs were simple; you just wanted to listen to some decent tunes while working in your home office. But NO!!!!! You can't do that! Now you have to spend more time and $$ if you want to. What a deal! What a F$$%^@# DEAL!!:frown::disgust::|

OK, I feel slightly better and the rant is over. Off I go to get a sound card. :disgust::|

Well (KICK), it seems that (KICK) you were slightly (KICK) missinformed my troubled friend (KICK). You see, (KICK) that Tech Support fool you (KICK) listened to didn't know his a## from a hole in the ground(KICK). The bad part is(KICK) that you listened to him(KICK). By the way, that(KICK) "sound" you hear is me Kicking myself in the A## for listening to him in the first place(KICK)! Thank goodness for some cooler(KICK) heads and good friends that (KICK) helped get me on the right track(KICK). It should be noted that calling Tech Support back did solve the problem today. It seems the on-board CD input plug is bad on my board, but plugging into the AUX input works just fine(KICK) (KICK) (KICK). Well, I am getting tired (KICK) so I will happily end this rant and thread for good. One more time..........(KICK)! Ok, I'm better now. 😱:disgust:
