a7a266 problems!!

I just upgraded my system from an abit be6-2 with a celey 566@850 to a asus a7a266 with a 1ghz axia thunderbird 266fsb. I thought I might have some problems but not this much. My hard drive is partitioned 1/4 for mandrake liunux and the rest for win2k with an old boot loader. My problem is that the hard drive is seen in the bios but it will not try to read from it and it reads primary master fails. I have switched the ide cable around(knowing I had it hooked up right) and have messed around with a lot of settings in the bios. I even flash the bios to the latest release, but still the same problem. I thought that maybe I screwed up my hard drive but I stuck it in my other computer and it worked fine.
