I am in the process of searching for a CPU for my ASUS A8N32-SLI motherboard. It will be the last one I buy for this 939 motherboard, and I was wondering which is the best performer. I was on the AMD website, and they state that the X2 is a better performer than the FX-60. I tend to be a bit leary of marketing hype on these websites, but from your experience, is the AMD statement true? FYI - I do not overclock, so don't factor that into the equation. Thanks for the help.

X2 4800 runs at 2.4ghz. FX-60 is 2.6ghz, and both have 2x1MB L2 cache, so the FX-60 is faster.

Get an Opteron 165 and overclock it. Only AMD S939 processor worth buying IMO (everything else is more expensive, and this is just as fast overclocked).

If you are planning to overclock, get an Opteron 165 as customcoms said.

The FX-60 is still a bit overpriced for the performance it delivers - I guess the same can be said of the entire FX line. But hey, if you want the absolute fastest S939 chip then the FX-60 is it.

I'd go for the 4800+. A 5-7% performance increase in performance for $150 is not worth it, in my opinion. If you can't find a 4800+ at a decent price, look for an Opteron 180, it's basically the same part, just labeled differently.

EDIT: By the way, if you do go for an Opteron you may need to change your CPU voltage (vcore/vID) to 1.35v.

He said "FYI - I do not overclock, so don't factor that into the equation. Thanks for the help" so while overclocking is usually a great way to get free performance, in this case it's of no relevance.
