Checking it out and my 90nm 3500+ is a Week 2, 2005... suh-weeeeet! :D

CPU in box
CPU out of box
939 tiny little pins :D
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (sorry it's so dark, didn't take the time to edit any of these other than resize them)

Benches... 240x10, RAM @ 200 MHz 2-3-3-11
67.02 Forceware (the newest set that renders HL2 and CS:S properly in my experience)
3DMark2001 - 23,215
3DMark2003 - 11,599
Aquamark - 63,198
3DMark2005 - 4558
Doom 3 - 82 FPS High Quality, no AA, AF at default for High Quality graphics
Counter-Strike: Source VST: 4XAA/8XAF = 135 FPS, 158 FPS with none

*EDIT* 5/11
Well I decided to try to see if I could get any more speed out of this and what do ya know... I seem to be perfectly stable at 2.53 GHz (230x11 5:4)... up from 2.39-2.40 which was as stable as I got it before! How weird is that? Doesn't even run any warmer than at 2.39 that I've been running it at for a few weeks now. MBM5 reads 1.47 volts, 58 degrees C under load and between 42-44 idle with the retail heatsink. Not bad. I'm a bit more happy with this CPU now. :) Now I just gotta run some benchmarks and find out how much performance it's given me.

what is so sweet about that ... have you tried to OC yet, if so what is your results???

What's sweet about the CPU is that it is probably a nice upgrade for Jeff. I know I'd think it was sweet.

MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum...

Not going to overclock it yet for a couple reasons. I want to make sure everything stable, learn the BIOS and get things optimized first, THEN I'll overclock it if I don't end up moving in a couple weeks to take a job. Doesn't look like I'm going to get it though but we'll see.

Awesome... smooth transition to the new mobo/cpu without a complete reinstall of Windows. ;)

The BIOS says the CPU is idling at about 45 degrees C... I'm thinking it's off by quite a bit seeing as how the heatsink doesn't even feel warm. I'm sure it's making good contact too cause I installed it once, then removed it and checked to see that the AS5 spread out good and it did.

Does MBM 5 work with nForce3 chipsets?

45C idling seems a bit high for me. Mine does at 38Cish, most people get a bit lower than that even.

Yeah, like I said... I don't think it's accurate... my hard drives feel warmer than the CPU heatsink.

I think this mobo reads a little high the temp. Mine is @40C almost all the time and is a wincheser with a Zalman an Ceramique...

awesome, have fun with it.

If you think your mobo reads high, mine says it is 61C idle and around 75 under load. Even though my HDD feels warmer than my HSF :D

btw I'm using a Newcastle 3200 on a Chaintech VNF3 with the retail HSF

I have more, just haven't taken them off my camera yet. :D I take pictures for a couple reasons... to show people who want to see them... and so I don't have to open my computer every time I want a serial number... or remove the heatsink to see the stepping.

I'm running Prime 95 right now and it's saying 57 degrees C... I know retail coolers aren't the best... but people are using them to overclock to 2.6 GHz... and the heatsink doesn't feel that warm... my SK-7 I used with my barton definately felt warm when the temp was reading near 60... even now with Prime 95 running, my hard drives feel warmer than the heatsink.

*EDIT* I just measured the temp of the base of the heatsink with a temperature probe, at the outer edge of the base it's 33 degrees C... it says room temp is 21 degrees C which is right on. So figure the core will be 5 degrees C warmer than the heatsink, and since I was measuring the outer edge of the heatsink the center might be a few degrees warmer... I think it's safe to say the core is probably no more than 45 degrees right now... which would make MSI's Core Center about 10 degrees C high.

Hey Jeff, how loud is that active chipset cooler fan? It's been so long since I had an active cooler and it looks like the newer high performance chipsets are all coming with active cooling.

I really don't notice a difference in noise at all... the CPU fan is at 3750 RPM and the chipset fan is at 5250 RPM. It doesn't seem any louder than it was with my passively cooled chipset and Panaflo 80mm fan on my Barton setup. I have 3 Antec case fans, a BFG6800GTOC, a Raptor, and a Hitachi 7k250. Sounds the same to me when sitting here using it. When I take the side panel off and turn my ear to it, I can hear a slight high pitched whine, but I think that's coming from the Raptor, not the fans, lol.

BTW... Core Center WAY off on voltages too... says my 12V rail is 11.5... but measuring it at a molex connector with my DMM shows 12.00... 5V rail shows 4.92 in Core Center, 5.01 on my DMM. Core Center shows 3.3V at 3.07-3.10... haven't measured it with my DMM cause I don't know where to measure it at. CPU voltage says 1.36 but I'm not too sure how accurate that is considering how much the 12 and 5 volt rails are off.

*EDIT* Oh... and my Mushkin RAM is running 2-3-3-6 1T @ 200 MHz, dual channel of course.

**EDIT** Don't wanna keep bumping my thread myself... but I updated Core Center and it seems things are a bit more in line... 12V is now reading 11.9... CPU temp is 52 C while running Prime 95. System temp shows 34C though... and it's not showing the N/B temp at all... maybe it put the N/B temp in the System temp box? Who knows... lol. I do know that the air inside my case is NOT 34C. :)

A64's don't have a northbridge in the first place no? I believe thats why there is no NB temp.

Update ur BIOS too. There have been many attempted fixes at the temp problem

Not a Northbridge in the sense that the Northbridge is where the memory controller is... but they still use a chipset.

Maybe the AS5 needed some time to settle in a little bit better... but idle temps are down to 40C and load temps are about 46-47C. Man I'm really tempted to overclock but can't yet until I hear about this job... =\

10 C lower than corecenter? Which part of the cpu did you use to probe it? If that's the case are you saying my temps are at 22C idle and 30 load with my H2o setup? because currently i'm getting 30-32c idle and 40c load... I don't think that is correct but your temps are correct as of now and yes neo2 sensor are really messed up :(
