A64 *Stock* Fan

What 'stock' fan does a A64 3000 have? as if its noisey i was thinking of replacing it with a Papst 80mm NGML or NG.

Any thoughts anybody?

iv heard mixed opinions on the sound....the best advice i can say is get it, try it, and decide for yourself...its gonna depend on your tastes, your case, and a little luck....if its too noisy, change it out...if not, be happy!

BTW, the fans for the A64 processors 3000 and higher are pretty good, but the 2800 one is noticeablly cheaper....just an FYI

To me it is very loud when running full speed, mostly because it's a high pitch noise.

I have found that they are the quitest CPU (retail boxed) fan I have ever seen myself!

Depends how hard the computer is performing. Mine is running very hot right now (near 50 degrees Celsius) and that fan is easily the loudest in the entire case. It's adjustable, though, so when the speed turns down the sound is managable.

I'm waiting on my A64 rig and I think I'm going with an SLK948 with a quiet fan for just as good, if not better, performance. Stock fan isn't worth keeping, IMO.

Thanks for all the thoughts🙂 I contacted AMD Europe (i'm in the UK) and asked them the same question as i started the thread on and they wrote :

Dear customer,
here are the required specs:
AVC DS07020B12U 70x70x20, Ball bearing with thermal sensor, . 2900 Rpm at 32 C, 5400 at 42, 25 to 52 CFM.

I'm in two minds atm to got for A64 or just get a Nf7 (not -s) and a 2.6 Barton save some cash and wait and see what happens in the new 64bit arena.

In my case when the fan runs @ around 6000 RPM's full speed it can pretty much vibrate my desk not forgetting the loud pitch that comes with it, but around the low RPM's it's not that noticeable if even that.

Speeds up and down depending on temps and that's with Q-Fan or any other fan controlling options disabled in BIOS.
