Very simple question.
In these boards do i have to use matched pairs too (like for the nf3) or the memory bandwith will be the same ? i mean 2x256 = 1x512 in terms of memory bandwith ?
Thank you in advance

You don't need matched pairs for any socket 754 motherboard, as the memory controller doesn't support dual channel. The controller is integrated in the processor and not the motherboard chipset.

You should get 1x512MB for better compatibility.

hmmm,
i guess you're right, though could you please explain to me why all this rumours for the matched pairs ?
I mean all the ppl i know are buying 2 identical modules for their nf3 chipset.
Also for the k8t800 is it better to buy pc3200 with cas2 or pc3700 with cas3 ? (same $ that matches my budget)
Thank you

The new A64 cores (Newcastle) on s939 support dual-channel. New s754 cpus are coming out as Newcastle cores instead of Clawhammers and I guess that is where some people may get confused.. "Hey s754 Newcastle, I can get dual-channel!" The thing is, s754 does not support dual channel.

As for the memory, I would go with the pc-3700 if you plan on overclocking. btw, which sticks are you looking to buy?

It's always a good idea to have roughly the same specification across all DIMMs, dual channel or not. That's one less variable where BIOS could screw up on "automatic" settings.
On each channel (on the only one on S754), it's also a good idea to have as few RAM chips as possible. Prefer one DIMM over two, prefer single-sided DIMMs over double-sided.

Hello,thanks for the input...
I am looking to buy either the corsair pc3200 XL(cas2) or a Kingston pc3700 cas3.
Which one should perform better? the pc3200XL with the responsive timings or the pc3700 that will give some +mhz with overclocking ?

I would choose the whichever is less expensive.

just my $.02. I got 2x512MB for 2 reasons, 1) it was cheaper than 1x1GB, and 2) if I upgrade to a DC motherboard I've already got a matched pair.

I'd also say that if buying matched pairs was really a stability issue on these chipsets, fewer people would be doing it.
