A64 + CH-5 + Neo2 Plat. = teh suxxors

Well I ordered some OCZ Gold PC3200 from newegg (thanks for the link Zebo) as an upgrade for a client/friend's computer and decided to test it in mine before handing it off... ya know... to make sure it works. 😉

I've been using some Mushkin PC3500 Level One stuff that has CH-5 chips and I could never get HTT past 240 without stability issues (with or without a memory divider). This OCZ Gold runs perfectly fine with the 166 divider. However, it doesn't run at it's rated 2-2-2-5 (or 2-2-2-10) timings, but that's an issue for the OCZ Support Forums. 🙂

Just wanted to share my experience with CH-5 for those of you having trouble getting HTT past 240. It might be your RAM!

It didn't make a difference what voltage, what speed, or what timings. It wouldn't work AT ALL with HTT above 245, and would crash in Windows above 240. Below 240 was fine. It's gotta be an issue with the motherboard and RAM I'm thinking since I had both a Winchester and Venice processor with that setup.

Could need another BIOS flash to a more compatible BIOS, but to be fair it should work really, as 240+ HTT is easily obtainable on this mobo 😕

I tried every BIOS I could find for it. You're right though... it should work, but it doesn't. It does now though that I ditched the CH-5 RAM. Later on I'll get around to jacking up HTT and lowering the multiplier.

😀

Maybe thats old CH-5? Winbound revised it or something, and now CH-5 actually scales better than bh-5 with higher voltages, although bh-5 will still do better with lower voltages.

Hmmm,..interesting,.... My Mushkin easily hits 275 with only 2.6v but my OCZ platinum barely hits 230 with 2.85v on my Neo2 Platinum

Back in the early P4C days I had some Mushy Level I. 2-3-3-X was the fastest timings possible. 230ish was the fastest mem speed I could get. Voltage over 2.8ish made no difference in performance. Haven't used CH-5 since though.
