when is this problem supposed to be fixed? i would like to buy another 2x512 for my current P4 rig, but when i upgrade i am going dc (in a year+, since i use the machine for video editing and encoding) and don't want to run at 2t

Which exact problem are you referring to?
You can now run 4 sticks at DDR400. It will be at 2T (unless you can somehow find 4 one-sided sticks), but the performance hit is small.

And the performance benefit in applications that can actually use 2 GB of RAM will be much greater than the penalty by running 2T rather than 1T.

why does everybody make it out that there is such a huge problem and performance hit? say for gaming in bf2 with a 7800gtx running @ 1600x1200 w 8AA on, what approximate performance hit would you hit by running 2t instead of 1t, say with a 3700diego @ stock speeds?
