A64 3700+

According to AMD's roadmap the A64 3700+ should be out this month. What do you think prices will be and will it cause the other a64 prices to drop any????

Well considering A64 prices have not fallen for months now a new top cpu should occupy the largest price bracket and thus lower all the A64 prices below it as usually happens. However, I would tend to think AMD will not lower the prices just yet until P4 comes out with 3.6ghz because if they have A64 3700+ they undoubtedly have the fastest CPU so why should they lower their price when they can charge a premium for the fastest product? If ppl want the fastest cpu they'll get the 3700+ over any p4 cpu. But you can also see AMD lowering the prices, thus having the best price/performance ratio. So it's a tough call. In my eyes the only thing that is saving intel right now are dell and other oem system builders, the engraved brand image that intel is better in the consumer eyes, the gigaherts myth, and the fact that P4 C overclocks nicely. Otherwise A64 is a better processor and Athlon XP is a lot better for price/performance from 1600+ to 2500+ in comparison to a p4. What is mind-boggling is that Intel actually keeps increasing their profits and their market share now exceeds 80% with Amd taking whatever is left. When are the consumers going to realize that XP chips are better than every non P4 C Intel chip and that unless they are overclocking a P4 C price increase does not justify them purchasing it over an A64?

Socket 939 with A64 3700+ sounds awesome.

We'll see it when the FX-55 is about to hit as well. AMD would have to be nuts to have a "plain" Athlon64 that's faster than the top of the FX series for any extended amout of time.
