This is what i am ordering:

A64 3500+
MSI Neo2 PE
Crucial Ballistix PC3200 512RAM

Now, i am going to set that up and then put in my old things from a previous computer that is ancient. which is:

40gig IDE Hard Drive
Radeon 8500LE 64MB

Now, my question is, how will this system perform in today's newer games (HL2, WoW, Doom3, etc...) ?

Now ofcourse i do plan to get a newer card, but that wont be for another month maybe.

Your video card will seriously derail any performance gains in modern games. You should consider buying a slower CPU and getting a decent video card.

I disagree. A Radeon 8500 is better than, say, a GF FX 5200 in most games. It is going to be kinda slow, so you'll have to keep the resolutions down... I have a GF3 TI, and I run 1024x768noAAnoAF med-high on all games, but it should play anything out there. My card is a direct competitor to the R8500.

I highly doubt you are playing "all" games with that resolution and that Geforce3 card. You're telling me that Doom3, Far Cry, and Painkiller all run smooth on that?? I think not.

An 8500 or GF3 video card are only going to be decent in older games, not the latest and greatest.

sl33p, you need to downgrade your processor and get a A64 3000+ processor with a Radeon 9800Pro video card for the same price as your 3500+ cpu. then you'll have a very fast gaming system on a better budget than what you're spending.

oOo. I should stay away from the forums until I get some sleep. Well, hmph. I still think it'll do for a month.

Yes, Doom 3 and Farcry run smooth on that on all levels. I have never played Painkiller.

with that video card i doubt you would get any playable frame rates even at 800x600 resolution and med quality settings in most modern games.

Don't underestimate it. It's better than GF FX 5200, esp when I normally can O/C it to the specs of a GF4 TI4200. Oh, 3DMark2001SE = 8876 Marks @ 225/450- my usual speeds. Faster than a normal GF3, but slower than a TI500.
