A64 3500 (939) benches...

Well, I got my new system put together. Eveything is in except for my Radeon X800XT. So until then, I'm stuck with my old 9600pro :frown:

Anyway, I decided to run some quick benches with the crap card in anyway just to see how it does. Neither system is overclocked except for the 9600 which is at 515/330 in both...

OLD SYSTEM:

Athlon XP 1800+
Shuttle AK31
768MB Crucial PC2100
Radeon 9600pro
60GB Maxtor 7200rpm - OS Drive

PCMark2004: 2698
3DMark2001: 10440
3DMark2003: 3769

NEW SYSTEM:

A64 3500+ (939)
Asus A8V
1GB Mushkin 2-2-2 Special PC3200
Radeon 9600pro
74GB WD Raptor - OS Drive

PCMark2004: 4400
3DMark2001: 15199
3DMark2003: 4220

I wonder where the bottleneck is???

is the raptor loud?

Yeah, I didn't think it would be. My new system has too be twice as quiet as my old one since all of my fans are thermal-controlled now. I can sure hear that raptor chugging away load and clear though.

Does it have a whine to it, or is it only loud when it's accessing?

I would say it's very loud when accessing. I have 5 case fans, the PS fans and the CPU fan going and I can hear the raptor clear as day over all of them when its accessing. It may have a slight whine too, but I can't hear that over everything else.

I don't think it's the temp of the drive, I've got a fan blowing across it already. And the case temp is very cool (around 75F).

What he's saying is get the driver QUIETER and cooler. It happens to have fans, but for your purposes the quieter part is key.
