A64 3400+ => a few quick questions please ..

Hi all !

Sorry if this has been covered before [ I did a quick search and could not find anything ], so can someone please advise:-

=> are all Socket 754 3400+ chips 0.13 *or* are there some 0.09 ?

=> if yes, how do I identify the 0.09 Socket 754 3400+ cpu's ?

=> is the CG steeping the latest / best one to get ?

=> am I right in saying that the AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Newcastle is a 2.4 gig cpu wiht 512cache but is a 0.13 core ?

=> is there a code or way of telling which core a particualr A64 chip is ?

CG stepping is best, all newcastles use it and the new Clawhammers use it.

If you look on a site or box (i think for the box) you will see what core it is

If your talking about what stepping it is, download cpu-z, it will tell you

I was hoping to determine what core the CPU was before I bought it.

I gather then that all A64 3000+ cpu's are 0.09mcron and all the latest stepping / core ?

Sorry about the questions but I am from the Intel-worl where you cna ealsiy look up the sspec on the website and it tells you *everyting* about each cpu - stepping, core etc .... the way AMD are doing it is *very* confusing for people like me [newcommers to the AMD world].

There are no S754 90nm chips. The ONLY 90nm chips are the S939 3000+ @ 1.8ghz, 3200+ @ 2ghz, and 3500+ @ 2.2ghz. All have 512kb L2 cache. The only thing to watch out for is that there are 130nm and 90nm versions of the 3500+ with no other difference. As of right now, there are 5 websites selling winchester (90nm) cores for the 3500+ on pricewatch. If you go to pricewatch.com, and click on cpu's you'll see a list that includes 90nm only 3000's, 3200's and 3500s.

The S754 3400+ @ 2.4g is definitely the best bang for the buck though at stock speeds.

Only thing I would like to find now is, where can I find hgow to decipher the alpha-numeric code on the A64 cpu's so I can figure out steppings, voltages etc ......

AMD gives the same information, it only takes a minute to find it.

The codes are a little trickier on boxed processors, but you can still tell.

ADA3500AWBOX - AW is a newcastle revision.
ADA3500BIBOX - BI is a winchester revision.

So if now I decide I want a A64 3000+ 939, I *presume* the code on the side of the box will be:

ADA3000BIBOX ?

Yes, thats what many retailers such as newegg state as the model number/product ID.
