That's how they're priced, but in some applications (gaming, for example) lower rated A64s are on par with more expensive Intels--Anand even had one game bench where a 3400+ gave a 3.4EE a run for its money.

I go with whatever fits your upgrade path.

The 775 intel P4's didn't fit my upgrade path especially when it came to AGP chipsets. Buying a new PCI-Express video card was not an option. A similar issue happened to me when apple went from os 9 to X. A lot of my software didn't work which left a bad upgrade taste in my mouth when I perchased a G4.

So after 3.5-4 years with a P3 1 Ghz, I decdied on going with the AMD 3000+ Winchester. However, if I had known about monarchcomputer.com I probably would of gone with a 3200+ or 3500+.
