I recently bought a E-machine T-6000, it comes with A64-3200+ Clawhammer 1MB Cache and 512MB PC3200 samsung Memory with 300Watts powersupply. So i was trying to overclock it upto my computer with is running at 2.25GHZ but i was just able to overclock it upto 2.21GHZ. If i go upto 2.25GHZ after starting the windows if you put some load it will restart automatically. I was thinking that it could be memory problem, please help me here what timming for memory would be good and how can i do that or something else.
The default memory settings are at Cas 3- 3 - 3 - 8, and also if i install 512MB more it will drop the memory speed to PC333. It has only 2 Memory slots, the total you can have is 2GB. So please help me out here i want 1GB memory at least but memory speed changes as i go 1GB or Above.

1) change your sig, if you are not stable @2.25 :p j/k
2) turn off automatic restart in windows, so you can see what the bluescreen is about (e.g. memory failure)
3) if no bluescreen and just reboot, maybe your PSU (most likely) is too weak and when the A64 starts sucking power @2.25 => *TILT*

i think there is something wrong with the memory like i said because at 2.25 the temperature is only 40-49C, but i will try to turn off the automatic restart .

follow zebo's post

barring that, try an decent psu. a 300watt emachine one isn't likely very good...

So you guys are saying 300Watts is not enough, i will try that also. But i tried that Windows don;t boot up automatically thing but did not worked. But what about the Memort problem why it is down to 333MHZ from 400Mhz how can i fix that problem?

1) Overclocking an e-Machine...not very bright. Just getting that out of the way.
2) I wouldn't overclock an A64 machine on anything but the highest quality 300 Watt...since that's probably right at the base of where your PSU should be. Knowing e-Machine's standard procedure, that power supply is not a high quality one, and probably had just enough power to run the components off the shelf. Now that you are squeezing all this extra juice out of it, it's going to just give up and restart when it goes over its threshold. Happens all the time with low-quality PSU's.

On a more random note, I saw you have another post in Cases (at the same time), where you told someone the PSU they picked up 'looked good'...considering you are using a no-name, restarting e-Machines PSU, don't you think you're a little underqualified to give advice on the matter?

Your ram definately sounds like it may be a problem. How are you running 1.5gb with 2 slots ? 1x1024 and 1x512? Mix matched ram never overclocks well! If you want to be successful in overclocking

1. Get a more powerful power supply
2. Get a matched set of ram sticks
3. Put them in something besides an emachine:)

It's possible you just have a chip that doesn't OC well. I can't go higher than 220mhz FSB on my 3200+ Clawhammer unless I use a memory divider. Even with a 5/6 divider, I can't go over about 240mhz, so I just use 1:1.

Also realize that you have the clawhammer core not the winchester that most everyone is talking about.

Ok i am not talking about my computer which you can see in my signature. It is another computer my Cousing bought a while ago, and he is using 2 x 512mb rams in 2 slots so he has 1GB total, about PSU i will definately check it out by putting a good one. But i did not understand the problem with the memory speed why in the hell it droped to 333MHZ, if you take out one 512MB(any) in one of those 2 it will come back to 400MHZ. I tried different brands like Kingston, Crucial etc but same problem appears. But when i put 768MB it worked fine at 400MHZ. It does not make sense to me because i tried to change the speed in BIOS to DDR400, but that did not effect too. Is there is a problem with Clawhammer or it is a problem of the motherboard which is MSI brand.

stunning !!! did you just say you can run your CPU at 240x10=2400 mhz but you choose to run it at 10x220=2200 mhz because you want to run the memory at 1:1 x 220 = 220 mhz instead of 5:6 x 240 = 200 mhz ????? so you are willing to sacrifice 200 mhz of cpu speed just to run the memory at 1:1 which makes the ram run only 20 mhz more ?? this is the most stupid thing - did you run any benchmarks at all, or you just blindly follow you idiotic belief that "1:1" is better ? let me break it to you - 1:1 doesn't matter squat in athlon 64 platform - in fact there is no such thing as 1:1 as fsb and HTT are never really synchronized, so it doesn't help at all if they happen to run at the same speed. RUN YOUR CPU AT ITS MAX SPEED of 2400 (at least) !!!!!!!! That will give you 10% improvement in system performance, while your stupid ram will not give you even 2% improvement even if you run it at DDR600.....
