I was wondering which of the two would be better price/performance? I would overclock them of course. I would prefer to use the Stock HSF if possible. They seem very similiar and i just can't decide any help would be great

Opteron 144 depending on your mobo. Don?t forget with the 144 you will be overclocking on the x9 multi not x10. So you will be mobo reliant, with regards to max stable HTT

What seems amazing is, some places sell the opterons cheaper than venices. dave(flickerdown.com) sells the opteron 144 oems for $112. 146's for $126. Thats freaking low. They are cab2e also that oc to like 2.8ghz at least.

thanks guys that helps alot ..another question would be should i buy a better HSF for O'Cing or just keep the stock HSF. Since I believe i'm gonna get the retail one. Also i'm planning on using DFI sli-D as the MB. What could be an alternative to this MB? cheaper would be better. Thanks

my opt 144 @ 2.6 is running w/ stock voltage and hsf. idle temp is 36 while load is 43. not too shabby. and yes, if you have to choose between 144 and 146 go for 146. although if i had better ram i'd be willing to bet i could push my cabne 144 towards 2.7-2.8 on stock hsf/voltage.

According to www.amdcompare.com there is a E4 stepping A64 3200 available (ADA3200DKA4CG or PIB ADA3200CGBOX). Last I checked these were just coming on the market. ZZF has it for $173. Newegg has it for $177. If they really are E4 cores then they might rival those awesome E4 939 Opterons while being widely avaible in retail channels. The only down side I see is that it only has 512 KB L2 cache. Other than that the price is great and you get a 10x multiplier (same as an Opteron 146).

Has anyone gotten ahold of one of these yet and put it through an OC test?
