On VNF3-250 with SLK948U:
2.55GHz (255x10) @1.65v stable
2.5GHz @ 1.55v
1.7v didn't add anything - better cooling is needed.
I got 3000+ Newcastle (rev CG) to 2.42@1.7v in the same system.

So 62W really are hand picked CG cores.
Still more then 3700+ performance for less then half of price cannot be beat.:D

Interesting to see if 35W 1.2V mobile can beat this one

I didn't try lower voltages at all - went straight to 1.7V
Why 1.55V ? why not stock 1.4V ?
Will try tomorrow.
My temps are 66-68C under load - but I don't trust these numbers - think that mobo is wrong here.
When are you getting that K8N Neo?

It's the highest vcore I feel comfortable using. Plus it keeps the thermals down. I would really appreciate it :)

Ok. I was suprised - at 1.55V I got to 2500MHz - pretty stable ( hour or so 3dMark loops)
So I think 1.7V is not needed after all (on air at least).
Will try 2.55Ghz on 1.6

yeah i HOPE your mobo is wrong, that chip will be toast faster than you can run to the kitchen and make it.

not at all. Those temps are WELL within A64 specs.

What type of ram are you using? Does the cpu fit snuggely under the heatsink even though its missing a heatspreader?

Mobile chips (A64/Barton/Whatever) are typically rated to 80-90C Max operating temp.

Could anyone please clarify the issue? How missing hetspreader affects the use of HSF's? Thanks.

My days of A64 chips may come earlier than late. Since 939 is going to be so expensive, I might as well pick up a reasoablly price, oc'able mobile a64 and a chaintech mb and play with them.

I'm using OCZ PC4400 EL GOLD 512MB 1 DIMM (beta bios for VNF3-250 doesn't work with 2 DIMMs of this ram at 1:1FSB - see motherboard forum for details).
As to heatsink - I'm using SLK948U (as seen above) and it has its own backplate and not the AMD one (which has be be removed from motherboard)
and this allows it to contact CPU die without any problem.
Now, I'm not saying that standard AMD CPU mount bracket will not allow to mount heatsink on mobile CPU it just that nobody (that I'w aware of) has tested it.

I wasn't aware electromigration cared whether or not temps were within spec. ;)

1.7 volts is quite a bit to be running through an A64 with air-cooling. They aren't like bartons in terms of scaling with voltage either. I'd back it down if you want to have that chip for very long.

Very Nice. I have to use 1.74v to get my older CO stepping 3000+ to run a 24 hr Prime95 stable 2500mhz. I'd love to give one of those mobiles a try. Oh if only I had the funds.

I've yet to get my MSI K8N Neo Plat to get the voltage saved above 1.17. At default its .91 at 1.6 its .99 at 1.8 its 1.17. I can change the multiplier and voltage with clockgen fine but it will not get the voltage right with the bios. I'm using a Mobile Athlon 64 3200+ 'CG' revision.
