I'm trying to decide which processor to buy, either the 3000+ or the 3200+. The only reason I was maybe going to get the 3200+ was if it performed better in 64 bit. Currently the difference between the two procs does not justify the price difference for me. I'm not sure ifanyone knows about how the extra cache will help in 64 bit butI just wanted to know what you guys thought and which processor you guys would get.

Ya, currently there is not much of a difference between the two. I was just wondering if the extra cache that the 3200 has will make even more of a difference in a 64 bit os?

well, we cant tell yet unless a 64 bit os comes out with there are full driver supports for all the hardware for it. otherwise, i dont think it should be that much of a difference (from the 3000+ to 3200+) from the benchmarks i've seen on the windows xp 64 bit beta.

I ran my 3000 for about 2 months using microsoft's free windows 64 bit edition. Everything I ran was comparable to the benchmarks for the 3200. Just with ATI would get some drivers out there for it.

It might, probably depends on the program. I'm sure database stuff will benefit from extra cache, maybe server apps, gaming to a lesser extent, encoding... maybe. Hard to tell at this point, software and drivers, not to mention 64 bit os's are skant atm.

buying for now....A64 w/ 512kb L2 cache makes sense

buying for the future...A64 w/ 1mb L2 cache MIGHT be a little faster, nobody truly knows yet

Ya I am probably going to go with the 3000+ and put the extra 60 bucks towards some better ram or something.

May even be better to go with a mobile 2500+, those are supposed to be able to overclock like mad. Then use the $100 or more you save to get a better video card,

I'd wait on the A64 until you have a reason for the extended Cache and 64bit processing.

And yes, the 2400+ to 2600+ mobile athlon XPs can run stable at 2400-2600 Mhz on Air alone. (like the equivalent of an Athlon XP 3800+ or more).
