Anyone fammiliar with the thermal pad on the stock 3000+ Venice core?
I am interested in using Artic Silver Creamique instead of the Thermal pad. On the stock HSF the thermal pad is right square in the middle of the HSF. If I were to remove it to use ther thermal compund would there be a gap between the HSF and CPU? Would I have to get a new HSF if the HSF and CPU aren't flush?

There is no gap if you remove the pad.

Great news !! I should be able to remove it hopefully with relative ease. The HSF is still in the retail box. Any suggestions on how to remove the thermal pad? Is it a matter of just pulling it off?

Scrape it off with something (credit card works), then clean it with rubbing alcohol.

I assume that I shouldn't use anything abrasive. A credit card seems like it would do the trick. Any other tips for removing the thermal pad and replacing it with thermal compound.

Thanks for the help all !
