A64 3000+ K8NS Help --> Blue Screen Error

Im running a winchester 939 3000+, Gigabyte K8NS w/nforce3 ultra chipset, 1GB + 256MB PC2100 DDR, evga 6800gt, 2 (1 Maxtor, 1 WD) 120GB HDDs, win xp pro (no sp's yet). I keep getting a blue screen error "MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION 0x0000009C" after about 30 mins of working on the computer. The hardware is brand new, just put it together yesterday. Let me know what this means. Thanks,
sYn

what brand is memory?

try taking out the stick of 256 and try that, what timings are on the memory?

what do you have the memory timeings set to in the bios?

Memory is generic brand, but its all certified & worked ok on my other mobo/cpu (p4 w/sis chipset). Could the new chipset be causing the error? The memory is suposedly made for the SiS chipset... Also, the whole rig is running on 300W PS, could that be the prob?

Just a thought, have you checked your bios updates I think the last update was December. And yes power supply & cooling could be an issue.

BEFORE you download any testing software, reboot your computer in safe mode and see if it still blue screens. If it restarts, then it's definately an OS problem and you might want to reformat. If it doesn't then, restart in Safe Mode with Networking and see if it still blue screens. If not, restart normally and start uninstalling drivers one by one until you don't see the blue screen. This should isolate the source of the problem. If it still blue screens, start pulling out cards one by one until it stops.

I ran the MemTest86 tests and the memory failed tests 3 & 6. I read up on it and see that 'you cant expect cheap memory to work with an Athlon". My 1GB memory stick is generic brand so it did cost less... I disconnected my 4 case fans to conserve power since cooling is not a problem. It is quite cool in my basement and my case is usually open from the side... Everything runs cool anyways. Could it really be my memory? Let me know for sure, because I need to go buy some otherwise... Thanks,

I think I've found the problem. Everytime the system would blue screen, my 2nd HDD would shut off unsuspectedly. Now it became corrupt and is causing this problem, I believe. The memory is working fine despite the errors in Memtest86. Any comments?

i still feel it is the memory. usually with blue screens it is memory or driver corruption
