OK.. I have a few questions regarding this kick ass processor.. and some other stuff.

I read somewhere that ppl are getting REALLY high fsb overclocks with this by lowering their multipliers.
Are there any links to tests like these?
Would it be possible to get to let's say 266 mhz fsb?

Regarding the a64 via chipset.. does it really have a /7 divisor at 233 mhz?.. if so maybe it has a /8 at 266 mhz!
I'm asking cuz this seems to me like the most stable and best performing platform available to the a64 right now. Save perhaps the sis chipset.

Anyway.. methinks that and A64 @266*8=2133mhz would kick ass.. and even better would be 266*9=2400mhz
mmmmh.. drooool.. just imagine the gaming benches on that!!

Anyway.. is 2400 mhz possible on this cpu with high end air cooling?

thanx

Maybe if you could find RAM that would run at that speed. RAM technology is lagging behind a little bit right now, hopefully DDR2 changes that.

Not the FX's... and certain 754 boards can unlock lower multipliers... meaning you can decrease it, but not increase it.

Jeff is correct - the A64s (non fx) are top-locked, thus many boards can allow lowering of the multiplier

Low multi -- High FSB is the best way to go anyway, so I don't see a big deal with the A64's higher multi's being locked.

Bumpetybump...

Noone knows anything about this? C'mon!! Somebody's gotta have tested!

hey Jeff.. there is plenty of (EXPENSIVE) memory that is rated for 533 mhz and even 566 mhz now.. So that wouldn't be a problem.

But.. anyway.. I read that the Nforce 250 is coming soon (maybe in late Jan).. I hope they fixed the PCI lock and the mediocre performance of the previous generation.

Does anyone know if there will be Soundstorm for the A64?

cooling isnt the limitation of the athlon-64 design right now. More than likely the design just cant do those speeds, ive heard nothing over 2200mhz without exotic cooling.

Yeah but I am not looking for super high overclocks.. Just high fsb's!

Some people are geting over 300 FSB with the NF3 boards using the cpu/mem dividers, lower multis and extreme cooling. There's a bunch of info here.

Plenty of people are hitting 2400 MHz on air with the A64 3200+. There aren't as many results yet with the 3000+ but so far it doesn't look like it tends to overclock as well.

Hey there pelikan.. thanx.. wow.. 325 mhz fsb. not stable though but anyway.. It seems like 266 mhz is very much possible given the right configuration.

A lot of it is really crappy though... with timings like 3-4-4-8... I wouldn't put crap like that in my computer.

You can bet the nForce250 will be much better... most likely will have the full 800 Mhz HT link... as far as I know, the PCI lock on the nForce150 has always been functional... it's Via who can't seem to get it right.

It should have nVidia's 6 channel APU... although it's "SoundStorm" designation was taken away a while back.

The funny thing about the A64 and agp/pci locks is that, as far as I can gather, the NF3 has locked agp but not pci, while Via has locked pci but not agp. People running very high "FSB" with the NF3 are using pci cards that can keep the hdd at 33 MHz.
People with phase change cooling and volt mods are doing best with the NF3. For us mortals the Via may be the best solution because its a little faster and can overclock as far as air or water will take the A64.

I'll just wait for the Nforce 3 250 is released.. It should be the ebst performer and hopefully it will also have integrated audio.. I don't wanna spend 130 dollars on a soundcard.
