Looking at buying parts to build a mining rig. I just want to make sure, this processor is still a normal processor right? It mentions that it has cores for graphics too, but that's just to enhance onboard graphics for a motherboard?

That's a super low price for a processor so just want to make sure I'm actually getting the right thing. My goal is that eventually I can upgrade that rig to Ryzen since this chip uses the same socket.

The motherboard I'm getting is this:

That chip uses FM2/FM2+ as well as DDR3 which is NOT upgradeable to Ryzen.

You would want an AM4 compatible CPU/Mobo and DDR4 ram to upgrade to Ryzen with the same computer. This is the cheapest compatible CPU Newegg carries for AM4.

Edit: I have that same AM4 mobo and its been a fine board since I got it in March. Just they're support is awful.

Oh crap you're right. The original one I had picked was AM4 but it went out of stock, so had to pick another and didn't notice socket this time.

The next one down the line seems to be this the A8-9600 APU: https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX68405

That one will work right?

Edit: nevermind that just went out of stock too! Ok probably just get Ryzen lol.

Yes that will work.

Also Raven Ridge APUs are coming out in Feb. For $99 you can get a quad that would be a much stronger CPU. But either way, that CPU you listed will work.

Don't go with a A8-9600, or any other Bristol Ridge APU, for mining. They have less PCI-E lanes off of the CPU / SoC, and will not allow populating all of the PCI-E slots on various boards with video cards. Get a real desktop Ryzen CPU, and use one of your mining GPUs for display output too.
