Saw these pics from my cousin in Arizona...looks like an A10 Warthog didnt make such a good landing!

From my cousin who was there on the spot and took the photos:

It happened at Davis-Monthan. It never made the news.
The aircraft had just came out of AMARC for some modifications. and it was landing from its FMC flight (test flight to make sure every thing works right after a heavy inspection).

Part of the test is when the aircraft touches down with antiskid turned on is for the pilot to nail the brakes and make sure the anti skid system works well it didn't. He flattened the 22ply tires and lost control and thus tearing the gear off the aircraft.

Looks like his landing gear collapsed. Nasty. All things considered, the pilot that brought that one down without flipping it did a pretty darned good job, actually. After all, as the old saying goes "Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing." Not sure if the US Government would agree now that they have to spend $$$ on repairs for that one, however!

of all the planes to crash, that would be the one I'd like to crash. I hear they're built like a tank. That and they are slow, so at least you're not hurtling at the ground at 500mph. :)

Yeah, but their landing speeds are far slower than a fighter.

Who cares about landing speeds?
On another note, I used to fly Cessna 172R's and they freakin glide above the runway and won't stall even at 35knots when trying to land! Because of that, they're harder to land more than anything heh.

Because if your gear crumples when you touch down, slower = better.

A-10's are tanks of the air. Best thing for close in air support.

Triple redundancy on the control surfaces, dual hydrualic and if you lose that you can always control it with good old fashion cable system. Titanium tub for the piliot. Its said that it can fly with a third of its wing blown off.

They don't make them like this anymore.

Have seen the F-15 that landed with it's right wing missing after a collision? link

When I was in Tucson last year I took the tour of AMARC. That was neat to say the least.

The Pima Air and Space Museum is well worth a visit too.
