CCIE, seriously thats about it - then it is negligable. Let me tell you, and all these ppl probably will argue, it is all about who you know these days.
I've got a degree in Information Systems, with a 3.7 average, and internship at a large data center for a hospital, and excellent references. I once had a CCNA (now expired), I've got several CompTIA Certs (A+, Network+, etc. . ). I can lay fiber, do a patch panel, understand servers, and even have patience for end users (a rarity).
I'm a dispatcher now.
I've done dozens of resumes, interviewed dozens of times, and am just sick of computers now. I'm getting a Masters in Public Administration now.
Now a football player I knew with a 2.1 average with a degree in General Studies is an IT manager at a local bank. Word has it he just contracts everything out. He has an uncle who was a judge, knows some politicians by first name, and is in the right circle. Not that I'm jealous, but I'm beginning to have a fundemental understanding that somethings just are.
My thoughts for you is to major is something like Poli Sci - intern for every politician you can . . . then do whatever you want when you graduate cause then you'll have the contacts to get the job.
