I think what happened is that manufacturers realized that if you're going to be lugging a display around with you, you might as well turn it into a Tablet PC.

I think MS is still working on their "Smart Display", or at least they were in 2004...

I was thinking along the lines of setting up a nice media station with the PC upstairs in the office - nice range in a big house, no cables - has to be good??

my friend at uni had this idea, hes abit nuts and he comes up with allsorts of daft ideas. he wanted to build a computer in a coffee table, and then have a wireless TFT somewhere in the room, he wanted hi-res too. then someone worked out the bandwidth he'd need if he wanted a 1600x1200 image @32bit colour and a 60Hz refresh, and it came to a number much bigger than any wireless device I KNOW OF can provide. so it wouldnt work and he moved on.

hes a uni student so probably never had the funds to do it anyway

What's funny is this "idea" isn't all that whacko. I have this thing called "Entertainment Anywhere" that broadcasts video and sound throughout the house using 900MHz. I use it to send my PC over to my TV in my entertainment system without wires. Couple this with your usual wireless keyboard and mouse technologies and what's different? The fact that they use 802.11a?

Edit: Ah! I get it now. A digital signal of higher resolution. I just read that. Ok. But still? Earth shattering? I don't think so.
