A worthy replacement for "the" Z-5500?

Ok, I came across a local forum site and it was brought up about the best 2.0 or 2.1 midrange speaker setup.

It was suggested there to use Swans M50W and this is the first time I've heard about it but it seriously got my attention when I started doing some further research about it.

Now, I am thinking of ditching my Logitech Z-5500 for a set of Swans M50W. I know it's not of the same playing field but somehow I would say that my "taste" probably have changed (or matured should I say) over the years and I no longer really have the need for a 5.1 PC setup.

Some reasons that I considered:
- 5.1 has lots of wires and speakers and my living room is getting crowded
- My new place now is rather small and I couldn't even go past 4 for the volume since I am afraid my neighbors will knock and demand an eviction...
- I now wanted cleaner, purer sounding system rather than pure SPL power and booming bass... I could say I am still a little bit of a bass head so I probably consider myself somewhere in between a purist and a bass head.

So... my golden question is, will this be a logical move or it's just a waste of time, effort, and money? :whiste:

If you already own speakers that you like, why change?

My home theatre speakers are from 1999. Computer ones I think 2000

One thing you could do is recycle the Z-5500 speakers onto a 5.1 receiver, which is what I did. Then throw on a different subwoofer. The full-range speakers have a nice sound and are definitely worth keeping.

Are you open to DIY at all? If you want clean bass, you might want to consider building a Sonosub. Just finished mine:

I'm actually disappointed in it, because there's no "thud" Just pure, clean bass. It's a little weird because the sound is so well-rounded that you don't notice you have a giant subwoofer - it's just a very articulate bass sound where you actually hear the sound instead of just feeling a boom. I'm disappointed because I want both - clean sound & boom  So I may have to build a box sub to complement it haha.

Just add bass shaker to your couch. Since you have a clean sub already, all you need is the shake :awe:

Op doesn't have room.

Yeah, I actually picked up a loveseat (with recline!) off Craigslist specifically to modify with bass shakers :awe: I'm going with 4 of the smaller Dayton transducers: (sold my Aura shakers awhile back when I moved, so I figure i'll try something new)

Or, cruise around on recycling days for old speakers...:whiste:

Yeah, I lucked out...couch was in great condition, older kids, non-smokers, "free if you can get it out the door". Took 3 of us & a van, but we got it!

Nah, nah, he said "crowded", we can work with that  OP, some more DIY stuff:

http://www.billfitzmaurice.com/

Bill designs really neat subwoofers using a horn design. They give a nice, clean sound and you can do stuff like build them into a cabinet or coffee table (see the Table Tuba, for example). So your sub could double as furniture if you'd like.
