Not quite the same thing. If your car could automatically 'service' itself, report to the shop, get a list of fixes, drive to the shop and get fixed, and debit your account for the repairs. Then you decided to not choose the option to 'check with me before initiating any repairs' because you figure it's convenient, don't go complaining when your car disappears to go get fixed and your bank account drops.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that this is the best way for MS to go about doing this. It should ask before rebooting, and that's always been the case for me (but I select download automatically and let me choose when to install) I'd say, in any case, that MS is no more than 50% to blame here (which we appear to agree on).
