A weird thing happened with my video card.........

this morning, i turned on my monitor and the screen was all screwed up. there were just all these vertical lines all over the screen, different colors and stuff. it didnt look like a refresh rate problem, in fact, i'd never seen anything like it before.

so i just restarted my computer, but it kept doing it, even during boot up! when it's supposed to be in VGA mode! i couldnt even see my post screen.

so i unplugged my monitor from the SGVA port on the card, and just left my other monitor plugged into the DVI port, (i'm running dual monitors right now) and it booted up just fine. so then i rebooted but plugged my main monitor back into the SGVA port and it started working just fine.

does anyone know what might have happened? could something like that happen if there's not enough juice going to the video card, or to the monitor? the power in my place is not so good. when my neighbor upstairs runs their dryer or washer my monitor get's all flickery. i'm guessing it's because i'm not getting enough power from the lines in my house because high power appliances like that tend to suck it all up.

ATI 9700

?????

I have "really good power here at the office and my house" IF you will just mail me your 9700, I will stress test it for you, for 6 months, to ensure that the card is ok 🙂

LOL

I would say it's probably a powerproblem, as the 9700 needs quite a bit of juice to keep it happy

mine is doing the same thing (ati 9700 pro) no matter which computer i put it in,i don't know what happened but my power supply isn't working either

i contacted ati and got an rma number

Get a UPS that does basic line conditioning, that'll give you some protection, or at least beep like hell when you have a problem! 🙂

I can vouge for a UPS beeping like hell. I had a pencil sharpener hooked up to it and everytime I used it my back-up UPS beeped like it wanted to sharpen my pencil. Needless to say, the pencil sharpener is no longer connected to that ups.
