A Weird But Serious Query

When I play games sometimes I drag my mouse a lot, and I mean a lot lot. So the cable gets dragged and I find that the USB connector sometimes come loose, the mouse never disconnects, but I find that the connector is loose and it can be pushed back in a slight bit at the rear of my cabinet to the motherboard of course.

Now my query is, is the any chance that the mouse won't perform well as long as it's not fully and firmly connected, or just somehow keeping the connection is same as a firm connection? Is there any software to check the mouse is maintaining proper connection?

Thanks :hmm:

I don't personally know of any software but the way I understand contacts and connectors is there is some give where it can be loose. When there is play in a connection you run the risk of wearing down your contacts or possibly losing connection over time.

It's a digital connection, not an analog connection. It's either connected or it isn't. It works or it doesn't. It won't work 50% as well if it's half way pulled out. It will work 100% or 0%.

It will be fine....but I must wonder: how is dragging your mouse affecting the connector? It should not have any stress on it, no matter how much you move your mouse.

Thanks, this is what I wanted to know. Feeling really relieved now 🙂

I drag the mouse, so the cable gets dragged as well, and you know nowadays the cables are not really long, so sometimes I end up dragging the whole cable, thus causing the looseness at the connector. It happened only twice so far though, I didn't even know that the connector popped out from the motherboard, was thinking why the cursor wasn't moving any more :hmm:
Why not a wireless mouse?
Not really my thing.

No, I didn't know that. My mice have always had part of the cable almost dragging over the rear edge of my desk, requiring me to have some cable management to keep it from going over, and thus being harder to move backwards. I can only see a problem if you have your USB connector rather far away. In that case, a USB hub would be in order (if you are going to upgrade your monitor anytime soon, get one with an integrated hub, use that). As long as you don't put too many devices on the hub, mice and KBs tend to perform fine.

Lol. It all depends on the setup. I am righty, so obviously I have the mouse placed at the extreme right side of my desk's top, and my cabinet is on the left side of my desk, so the cable has to travel all the way across the table (horizontally) and then another 3 or 4 inches (the gap on between my desk and cabinet) and then to the connector.
Will get an USB hub if needed badly, I can simply plug the mouse to my monitor too, or even to the keyboard, but someone somewhere mentioned that mouse should only be connected to motherboard, so that's not an option I suppose.

I've got a Logitech G500 and the cable is probably 7-8 ft long. If that's too short for your setup, then you do have an unusual one with the PC placed very far from the mouse. A mechanical solution is best here, either a hub or a USB extension cable.
