a way to verify chipset of pcmcia->firewire adapter?

I was just wondering if anyone would have any pointers as to going about doing this.

I checked under device manager -> controllers and found that it was indeed a VIA firewire chipset. I'm curious as to if this caused the delayed write failure when daisy chaining my firewire hard drive to my firewire soundcard and vice versa.
