A way to convert an mpeg to wav or mp3?

I did a search on this and game up empty.

I have an old recording of myself playing an instrument. I would like to have a sound file of it.
Is ther a way to do that short of holding a microphone to my speakers and rerecording it?

Winamp has an output plug-in called the Disk Writer. If you select the Disk Writer plug-in in Winamp and then play the mpg file, Winamp will write the audio to a wav file.

excellent program, just open mpeg, then save as (wav or mp3)

I've tried this before, and been unsuccessful this way. (I'm not on my computer right now, so I can't test it again.)

But I had a music video, and I wanted to rip the sound from it as mp3, and someone told me to do this, and it didn't even give me the option to do save it. I'll try it again when I get home I guess.

Any other apps that will let you do this?

Thx, I'll let yay know how I made out.

Well I downloaded the free trial version of goldwave and IT WORKED. Was able to open the file and save it as a wav file.

Wow, not only that, but I was also able to use that program to eliminate the hiss.

Thanks a lot.

np, goldwave is one of my favourite programs now, it still has a few problems with mp3 encoding but it's getting better with every release
