When a police officer gives you a warning for a traffic violation, it doesn't actually do anything as far as going on your record does it?

Nope. As far as anyone else knows (or any other cop)... you never got a warning. Just don't get pulled over by the same cop. ;)

If there's no actual paper that you had to sign, then no, it never happened.
Just stop driving like an ass and don't get pulled over anymore. ;)

Well, they do give you a piece of paper (I dont remember if you sign it). Its definetely offical, but when I got one, the cop himself said it didn't matter.

You were lucky enough to get a nice cop, hopefully you understand not to do whatever you did again.

He gave you a verbal warning. A written warning would be in the state database. Usually after 90 days to a year, depending on the state, it just disappears.

When you get a written warning or a ticket you do not need sign it. You can refuse to, but whether you do or do not sign has no bearing on the legality of the ticket.

Actually, when you get a ticket, you MUST sign it. The signature is your acknowledgement that you were given a ticket and must appear in court, but is not an admission of guilt.

If you don't sign it, you can be taken to jail.
