A video showing Microsoft's goal for its next-generation gaming platform has leaked. The video is a bit dated – it's from May 2010 – but it still shows the general direction Microsoft hopes to push gaming towards, according to ZDNet. Here's the video's description:
This is an internal Microsoft team video showing concepts and principles of what the WGX (Windows Gaming Experience) team hopes to accomplish. Ubiquity of games on Windows, on Xbox, and on their mobile platform is what we see as a goal here.

So glad I ditched MS. After my Xbox RROD'n for a third time and that time being out of warranty I did the towel trick to do a quick fix and traded it in to gamestop, I didn't even play the damn thing that much. Most friends had similar experiences, needless to say me and them will never buy another MS console again. Especially seeing what they want for the future lol.

ever since using Steam cloud saves, I've been thinking about how cool it would be to play the same gamesave file on my PC or my xbox or on a friend's xbox using my XBL account.

Their "online service" doesn't even have a web browser. Look, I bought a Reach Slim 360 when Reach released and it is now upstairs in the kids' room. They enjoy it but it is far too limited and useless for my tastes. I really like Gears but there is no way I will pay for Live again just to play it, and Halo has run it's course. There isn't much the 360 offers otherwise, so my $400+ Reach console is basically a Netflix streaming device until my Gold sub run out...lol

It's kind of funny they want you to pay for Live on a console but it's free on PC. Could it be because everything they offer is readily available for free on PC? Sure, cross game talk is nice but you don't use it nearly as much as you'd think when you're playing. Live is the biggest drawback for the 360 besides the console being so limited and as much as people swear by it in online forums, they do so for the same reason there are people that say every new game they get is great....because they don't want to feel cheated.

Man, you're the biggest fucking Xbox 360 troll that exists on the boards.

lol Seriously? I guess my one post a day for the past six years has been effective. I love how I OWN the Reach 360 that cost $400+ but somehow I'm a troll.

I think you just have a problem with the truth. Nice comeback though, way to deflect and attack! You should be playing the part of Ronnie's girlfriend on Jersey Shore.

Fine, let's see how you handle it.

I'm probably the only person on the board who has bitched about no browser since I got my 360, but that makes it far from useless. The 360 has ESPN3, Netflix (had it first, too) along with Zune & Last.fm - all perks of having your gold membership. How is it "too limited" and "useless?" Where's your argument? Because it doesn't have Blu-Ray? Hell, you should have known that when you purchased it. But it does work well as a MCE and multimedia player. Even works with Play-On, much like the PS3. But hey, that's too limited and useless for ya!

Again, see above about what is offered "otherwise." You should have weighed the pro's and con's of a console before you purchased it. The 360 offers quite a bit of gaming and a nice indie experience with XBLA. On top of Kinect, which is a great family gaming accessory.

You don't pay for it on PC because MS is not hosting patches, or match making services, along with the other premium content that comes with your subscription. Voice chat isn't the only feature that's available that makes XBL nice.

This is the statement that makes you an absolute troll, including a majority of your posts in this forum. Live is the freaking feature most people purchase a 360 FOR. Where are these "limitations" coming from that you speak of? How is Live the drawback? Fucking give reasons instead of dribbling these words out of your ass.

I will admit I know little of the Live Gold and the match making. That being said; is not Steam the same thing? I know it has voice and it does provide match match making in the form of servers. The games I play on Steam are LOD, COD WaW, CoD BO, LOD 2, BS:Midway and Pacific. This lets me sort friends, servers, game type, ping, dedicated, populated, ranked, favorites. There is additional content such as Steam rewards and games are automatically patched. I can see who is and who is not online, last time they were, If they are what server they are on and if I want to join that game. You can IM or use voice and any if any makes a mod more them likely you find it on Steam. Since I bought Bioshock 2 through Steam, Miniveras Den when it be comes available, will be free when 360 had to purchase it IIRC.

Now does Live Gold do this or more? See not trying to be a smart ass just asking a question.

Steam doesn't host the voice, the games do. Granted, it might be built into the Source engine, which builds off of Steam, but all of Valve's games had voice capabilities. And yes, you download games/patches from Steam - but you also pay them directly, you don't pick it up at the local store. They're making their money off of selling the product and being the distributor.

Well Doug you are correct that the games do do voice but you do not have to in game to use voice. I just got voice in Steam talking to a friend and neither of us were playing a game at any time before during or after the voice chat.
There is also Xfire that does all this plus the clan thing and you get your own player profile page with the servers you play on most plus the games you play. You can throw up video or pics from games. It lists all the games made with tons being one click join. Does what Steam does and more, I actually prefer it to Steam for gaming

Voice over Steam Friends is p2p.

How exciting. Avatars, farmville, american idol, bejeweled, facebook...

Wow, that was a steaming pile of social networking garbage and marketing-driven fail. Still, as long as the hardware is compelling and some other important issues (backwards DLC compatibility, etc.) are handled well, that's the kind of junk that won't matter because it can be ignored.

wow, you truly are an idiot

I own a slim 360 as well, and it's purely for Gears 3 at this point. Live is 100% useless to me. The only "extra" feature I would use it for is Netflix, but I have a PS3 and a PC (hooked to my TV), so why the hell should I pay to use a service I ALREADY PAY FOR? Live is useless and should be free, and nothing will ever change that. Letting you use shit on the 360 that you can use for free elsewhere is not a selling point.

Also, Microsofts stance on DLC is ridiculous. The whole thing with Team Fortress 2 and it not being able to have free updates on the 360 version is just complete bullshit that is ALL Microsofts fault.

But seriously, I have no reason to own my 360 aside from Gears, and after 3 that may not be enough anymore.

Fuck next gen. I am happy with current gen.

And, I will buy next gen when it's 3 years into it's life cycle. I am through with paying up to $600 for a console system and $60 for games. When they get to $300 and $30, I am in.

Until then, let the early adoptors jerk off at how great the Wii2, PS4 and XBox 720 is.

I feel like I've watched a different video then other people on here. I'm not seeing much of anything they're not already doing, maybe they're expanding on it... It's not like they're dumping the gaming part of it. It'll be like ESPN or Netflix, if you don't have to use it if you don't want to... not like MS is forcing you to be on facebook and play farmville..

It's the fact that the MAJOR focus is on social crap like Farmville, FB, and features like Netflix. To me, those are all bonus, extra features. They should not be the focus. The focus of Xbox Live should be getting me into online matches faster, making sure patches are readily available, and generally providing me with the best online gaming experience. I don't want XBL to link to my Facebook and post my achievements in my news feed (I like getting laid regularly, thanks). I don't need a web browser in my gaming console. I have a PC, a Macbook, and a iPhone for browsing the web.

It comes down to the concept. MS and Sony are trying to make their gaming consoles into HTPCs, basically, when I just want the best gaming experience possible.

I don't see how having the option to play farmville will change your gaming experience. I could care less about all the stuff from the video too, but it does nothing to change the fact that I enjoy gaming on my 360. Just keep giving me some good games. And MS needs to start getting some exclusives, because Sony is killing them in that area.
