Teen's right to wear sweatshirt is restored

NEWPORT NEWS -- A Denbigh High School student prevented from wearing an anti-abortion sweatshirt in school last month by a school administrator now can wear it after a Michigan law center raised the possibility of a lawsuit.

An assistant principal told Daniel Goergen on Feb. 18 to remove the sweatshirt or turn it inside-out. Printed in white letters on the front of the black, hooded sweatshirt are the words "Abortion is homicide." The back reads "You will not silence my message / You will not mock my God / You will stop killing my generation."

Nice potshot/personal attack there, tough guy. Free speech means freedom for ALL speech, not just the speech YOU agree with. Seems like a lot of people have trouble with that concept. They are all for free speech...until someone says something they don't like.

If we think some kids ability to wear a sweatshirt in school is a "victory" for free speech, we have a LOT to worry about.

Well you have to see it from the view of the School District (SD), the SD is trying to teach so they take a very parasol approach to free speech on campus, they pretty much try to remove it all in order to not have to deal with people and their "extremist" (ie non-norm) views.
