I've been putting systems together now for a number of years but this one has me stumped. I just purchased my father a new Abit KT7A MB, an Athlon 1.2 GHz, 512 MB RAM, a new case, and a 300 W power supply to go along with several componets he allready had. The problem I am having is such that I now have only the MB, CPU, RAM, and a video card plugged into the case. When I first boot I get a post however if I shutdown or reset and restart the computer I get no post. This happens no matter how long I leave it for and no matter how many times I do it. The only way I can get the system to post again is to physically unplug the power supply from the wall and then plug it back in and restart. It will post then once but again reset or power off and back on gives the same no post results. I thought it might be the power supply so I changed that out (I've tried 3 now) no go. I thought it might be the video card so I changed that out as well (3 of those too) again no go. I have no further ideas of what to try. The system will post perfectly fine everytime as long as I completely disconnect the power from the wall but no other time. Any ideas?

Thanks for any help you may provide.

Is it a Geforce-based graphics card? If so this is a common problem. Check the Abit Forums over at AMDMb (search for geforce & power/boot), you should find plenty of info there. Ignore if it's not a Geforce :)

Weird problems can often be resolved by clearing the CMOS. Be sure to unplug or turn off the power with the switch on the PS if there is one before clearing as there is always some power present on the mobo from an ATX PS unless it's unplugged. This happens often enough that I always clear the CMOS when installing a new mobo--just one less thing to worry about.
