A Very simple water cooling setup?

Hey guys, I have been looking into water cooling and figured it would be pretty cool to water cool my experiment rig. The problem is finding a CPU block that will fit on my CPU.

This is what I need it to cool,

Intel Pentium M 730 1.6GHz Dothan Processor

on a

MSI 915GM Speedster

The speedster uses a Socket 478 retention bracket but it is kind of weird. It will not accept a stock 478 cooler because the copper base does not reach down to the CPU causing a space. I read that the Pentium M is not as tall as the Pentium 4s which is why a stock sink wont fit on it.

I just need to cool the CPU which isnt that hard as it was designed for low heat. I just want to make it look cool with some UV coolant probably in a Microfly case.

Is it possible to make a very small water cooling setup just for the CPU where it can all fit in the case? Also how much would I be looking at spending on something like this? I will probably buy the parts second hand except for the tubing and coolant(lol).

Any recommendations on the CPU Water block?

...

watercooling a laptop processor. Something about this does not make sense.

Does your cpu mount look something like this?

Lets say you took off the stock retension system, do the holes line up like that?

OR do the holes line up like socket 478?

pictures would be nice.

The motherboard uses a standard 478 mount system.

Most waterblocks will require you to remove the stock retention system and either use a proprietary one or to bold the block directly to the board, the latter of which is the most common and should work just fine with your set-up.

unless he wants to run it near silent, besides, there's a lot to be said for just having some fun.

I do plan on overclocking a tiny bit, but it is mostly to keep it extremely cool while Folding and just to make it look cool.

I was pricing some components and it seems a CPU block will run me about $30 and tubing I could probably pick up for $10 at Ace Hardware. What else would I need to run this setup?

Andrew, not trying to be mean here.

But its not worth it. Your best bet is to messure the hole spacing, and find a custom builder or a custom miller, and have him make you a sink out of copper.

I still need to see your board, and the holes it has. If the holes dont match up, most of these blocks wont work.

you have a standard S478.

So any S478 using bolt though mount will work on that setup.

You really dont need to go water. Your cpu puts out around what? 35-40W of heat total? Overclocked maybe 70-80W? LOL...

Sorry, a medium peice of alu with a flat base could do that and keep you happy. No need for water my friend.

That is what I am basically using right now.

I just want to watercool this first and test my skill before I go to water cool my better computer. I never done this before so I might want to try it on my experiment rig first lol.

Oh and thanks for confirming about the PCB holes. I think I can do this for under $80 if I try.

I recomend this block for that guy then. You can drop accelerators on it if you want to tweek it. However if your just going to have fun its a good block.
http://www.directron.com/tdx478.html

However its 3/8, depending on your system, you may need to replace its barbs with 1/2. Its really easy, you just screw on and off.

its a great price tho.

However it wont work great on today's processors. And the more modern blocks like the EK and D-tek WONT work on that lappy processor. Remember modern blocks are now all bowed, and thats very bad on a naked die.

What, you didn't trust my memory Aigomorla? I've got a bad ticker and some cancer but, my memory works just fine.

+1 for the TDX though, they were great blocks in there time and quite frankly still are very good blocks for their designed application.
