A few months ago I had a situation whereby a customer used OneDrive for all their personal files and had run out of space on their laptop because of it; some of the files were synced and some not. I felt that the best way to play it safe and resolve the situation was to back up what was on their laptop and back up the contents of their OneDrive account from another PC (I used my Win11 install at home for this), so that once the space issue was resolved (I cloned their drive onto a higher capacity SSD), their laptop could have a shot at resolving sync issues itself and if it wet the bed then I had backups.
Wiith their permission I signed into their account on my computer and downloaded all their OneDrive data. After the work was done, I signed out of their account in OneDrive on my PC and deleted their data from my PC.
Months later, I fire up Edge to check on something (PS: I never use Edge in terms of daily browsing for any reason), and I'm puzzled by the profile icon in the top right corner having an avatar. Hold on, where did those Favourites on the Favourites Bar come from? Tick tick tock, Windows decided to opt me in to sync'ing their Edge data with my computer, without asking obviously.
Lesson learnt: If I ever do anything like this again, I delete the Microsoft account setup in Settings > Accounts > Email and Accounts immediately afterwards. I just wonder if any other Microsoft apps have been (or would have been, if I used this Win11 install for much other than gaming) infiltrated. If I had been using Edge, this could have been embarrassing.
