I believe the new violence in the middle east between Isreal and leb, etc presents bush with a unique opportunity. I don't like bush at all, but I believe that he could regain a LOT of good will here and abroad by stepping in.

If he took a sort of pro-lebanon view, but remained mostly neutral, and publically got Isreal to stop bombing, and helped establish some real security in lebanon, I think he would gain a LOT of support in Iraq.. This could lead to a less insurgent attacks, etc, if they thought hey this guy actually cares about us.

I'm NOT taking a side in the isreal vs lebanon thing, i'm just saying that this presents bush with an opportunity to win some much needed good will in the middle east. Discuss.

Step in? That's the last thing we need to be doing, is particpating in another war. Frankly, I think we need to get all our troops the hell out of there and let the middle east have at it with each other.

How so?

Only thing we have to offer is use of our Nukes.

All of the Middle East sand should be turned to glass. Problem solved.

I think the best idea would be to stay out of this conflict. We've got our own problems at the moment and it's not like this is really any of our business.

If the jews and muslims want to duke it out, whatever.

Didn't we try to do that the last time Israel invaded southern Lebanon? Oh yeah, we sure did. Ended up with a bunch of Marines dead in their barracks and we left soon after. And the US will never take the side of any other country vs. Israel, it just aint gonna happen.

I think it could be a good opportunity for a President in general, but not Bush...he has clearly showed he has no ability or desire to get the good will of anyone who isn't part of his political camp. He had what was probably a historic level of support here and abroad after 9/11, and he managed to piss it away in record time. If he couldn't do something with an opportunity like that, what makes you think he can do anything with this situation?

After 9-11 Bush declared that the US is in a "War on Terror." If that's true shouldn't we be *helping* Israel fight Hezbollah and Hamas?

No. They don't need our help nor should we give it to them. Everyone is fighting terrorism in the world, not only the US.

International pressure would have Israel step aside and take no action against the terrorists. If we joined Israel in this battle, we too would be condemned.

So you are advocating that Bush stand behind those who would wish for the total annihilation of Israel??

Isn`t that sort of like Bush saying "Hiltler was correct?"
