A Tualatin Celeron 1.4 @ 1.6 = what P4?

The music software I want to run has pretty hefty CPU requirements. :(

I have a Celeron Tualatin 1.4 @ 1.6GHz. What Pentium4 would this compare to?

The software will run on less than 2GHz, just not as well.

I may have to go build an AMD box, but not until we sell the house. :(

It's hard to say without benchmarks...

Your Tualy 1.4 at 1.6 is probably not running your memory at 133 mhz so there is some loss compared to a P4 with DDR memory due to less bandwidth. I have a 1.0 Tualy running at 1.34 ghz because I wanted to maximize my memory bandwidth (FSB=133). The best one to O/C is probably the 1.1, because you could max out FSB to 1.333 or better and have the CPU at ~1.5 ghz. With your arrangement, you are limiting your memory bandwidth to 114 mhz FSB - which is a bit of a bottleneck. In other words, you traded memory bandwidth on the minus side for greater CPU speed.

About the same as a 1.7-1.9 Willy P4 or about the same as an Athlon 1500/1600+

more-or-less

edited a bit lower . . . mine was a 1.2Ghz Tualatin Celeron at 1.6Ghz . . . definitely about the same as an Athlon 1600+(+) or a 2.0 Willy.

Sounds good... I can squeak by this time.... but I'm going to need to upgrade soon.

I'll be able to use about half the orchestra, rather than the complete.

The complete Garritan Personal Orchestra will need almost 3GHz and 1.5GB of RAM. I'll upgrade when we sell the house.... :)
