If this hold up - wow!
article

Imagine 10X the life in all portable devices. Some may even achieve the battery life they advertise now.

very cool and it sounds like the change in production will be easy to implement.

The promise of hand-held laser guns is looking more promising every day. Soon we'll have sharks with frickin' lasers on their heads.

I for one welcome our new laser-shark overlords.

We hear about these a lot, but this seems the most promising in terms of time needed to market. Maybe we'll actually see these soon :)

The inventor said that he's considering the formation of a company or selling the idea to battery makers. If this guy is working for a university, who actually owns the idea?

Usually the university does. However, universities aren't in the business of suppressing innovation and progress, so will usually be happy to license the technology in exchange for a suitable fee, or even sell the patent, if the price is right.

I would love to see a bidding war between Energizer and Duracell for a license to use this technology. Hopefully these batteries can be produced at a reasonable cost to the consumer.

I'd rather see it licensed to both so that there isn't a monopoly on superbatteries.

Nice! Finally we can have MP3 players that doesn't need a battery replacement every year or so!

You'll be up shit's creek unless there's a breakthrough in lubrication technology.
