My girlfriend is in Italy and want to travel to Belgrade (sp?) Montenegro (formerly Yugoslavia?). Anyways, from Italy she has two ways of going, either on ferry straight to Montenegro, which the American Embassy in Montenegro said NOT to do (did not give reasons). Or, she can go in through Bosnia and from there go to Montenegro. What should she do? Should I tell her ass to stay in Rome?

if your gf is american, she should just stay in rome. americans wont be popular with the serbs for bombing them, and they won't be popular with the moslems for being american. believe it or not, some parts of bosnia are more like saudi arabia than a european country.
otherwise, belgrade is a beautiful city with so much to see... can't she just take a plane from rome to belgrade?

They probably won't mess with her. I'd take the ferry accross and a train from the coast. Fly direct to Beograd is the best idea and the quickest. Anti American feelings are not the strong over there. She is not going to Kabul or Bagdad.

Not the best time to be an American abroad, tell her to be careful either way. Some people feel that as an American you are personally responsible for your governments actions. I'd stay away from the ferry if the embassy advised against it, they usually have good advice. Sometimes safety can take a back seat to profits on those kind of buisnesses.

I had no problem traveling in Europe and Africa during the bombing of Yugoslavia. I had no problems out of anyone due to their religion either.

They don't have enough money for a plane or they would do that. Oh well, hopefully she will stay, the raves are pretty tight in Rome from what I've heard.

Come on people! There should be no problem with her going any which way, she wants to go. If we start bombing Iraq while your girlfriend is in Bosnia, not much is going to happen. In fact, as long as she's NOT in IRAQ, nothing bad will happen. You shouldn't tell here to "stay in Rome," Let her go the hell wherever she wants, when she wants.

Besides, who would want to kill her?
What are the odds, of someone killing her?
Plus, as I like to say, "It'll never happen to you."

Your almost as bad as all the cry-babies in the mid-west who piss their pants at the thought of going to NYC in fear of another terrorist stike...

(I know they're a small minority, and do not want to insult people from the mid-west, and find it a very nice part of the country, I'm just using it to make a point, thanx)

You're an idiot if you think that the war is only going to effect Iraq.
