A 20 oz Diet drinks has zero or near zero calories, whereas a non-diet is about 280 calorie . Why isn't there a in between drink? like one with 100 or 150 calories... mix some sugar and some artificial sweetener. How difficult is it? I drink my coffee the same way... I put 2 sugars and 2 splenda in my latte... only splenda tastes like crap, otherwise I have to use 6 sugars, a bit too much at my age...

What do you think? is a lite soda in order?

I hate the taste of artificial sweetener in my coffee. I've tried the same thing as you with 1 packet of sugar and 1/2 packet of sweetener.... barf.

The 2 just don't seem to go well together, at least to my taste buds.

I'm guessing no in-between drink because it wouldn't be sweet enough for the majority's liking; kind of like making cool-aide with only 1/2 the sugar tastes too watery.

it has just one calorie per 8oz, I don't think its from sugar, one calorie is too low for even one teaspoon of sugar.
Have you actually tried it? It uses an artificial sweetener, but one that is supposed to taste much more like sugar.

They used to have Coke C2, which is pretty much exactly what you described. They stopped selling it because people weren't buying it

My thinking too, the taste wouldn't justify the calories. I doubt people would buy it.

What I meant was, half the sugar and half the sweetener, so the sweet factor would be same but calories would be half...

People get confused when there are too many choices.

I personally dislike having too many similar choices and being forced to choose arbitrarily or expend excess brain power to distinguish them.

Think about when you buy toothpaste. There has to be nearly 100 choices and it is virtually impossible to distinguish between them all.

Or maybe this is a personal problem.

I understand but I think it would run into the same problem C2 had. That being, people who want to save calories would rather go for the calorie-free drink, while people who want taste won't tolerate any level of artificial sweetener. I could only see it being a success if they were somehow able to get it the taste to be almost indistinguishable from the full-calorie version, but people who prefer sugared soda are going to be very sensitive to any level of off-flavor.

Right, but "sweetness" and "taste" aren't always the same. That's why drinks overloaded with artificial sweeteners taste like ass. I'm thinking the 50/50 compromise wouldn't make up for the comparatively poor taste.

Gatorade has a lite version that is between Gatorade and Gatorade Zero.

If you can stand the taste of artificial sweeteners (I can't), then why add calories by mixing them with the real stuff?

I drink the real stuff, just not much of it -- a 16 oz coke lasts me 4-5 days.

Good question I guess...the only thing I can think of is an oversight by the marketing dept. Or maybe it was considered but the target group is too small to be profitable. Or maybe you are actually the first one to think of this...

Another approach is to give your tastebuds some education. Most of your preferences and dislikes for food stem from your childhood. The sugar and salt maffia will do anything to make you their victim and during that time you are very susceptible to their efforts.

But although difficult it's not impossible to change tastes. Just slowly cut down on the amount of sugar in your coffee and soon you will be able to enjoy the full glorious taste of the one and only real black gold of this world (I mean srlsy wtf 6 sugars  that's just coffeecide).
