Why is it that cops spend so much time trying to catch speeders like its the worst driving offense one could do. I was thinking yesterday as I was driving home in the rain how many cars were driving without there headlights on. The same thing during snowstorms I notice dozens of cars that have no headlights on. Which is more dangerous somebody doing 80 on an open freeway or some retard driving with his lights out in the rain/snow. I would argue a slow moving car without its lights in is far more dangerous. It is so much easier to catch them......you don't need a radar gun you just need eyes.

So why don't police enforce these laws?

haha, at my old work there used to be nearly 2-3 dozen accidents a winter on our corner because of no lights and speeding around the corners.

BTW, maybe you are thinking of state patrol chasing down the speeders on the highways ?

i'm always surprised to see how many people drive without lights on in very bad weather conditions. heck, i even see several without lights on when its starts to get dark!

I think the cops do pull people over for that stuff. I know ive been pulled over for missing one headlight.

And yes I think no lights would be just as bad if not worse in bad weather at night.

Im talking about daytime no lights in bad weather. Wipers on lights on is the law. They police just seem to be much more gung ho on catching speeders than anything else.

Look at the ratio of police interacting with the public (vs paper pushers).

Are we talking 1/10, 1/100, 1/1000?

They may see as many infractions as you do; however, they have to spend time to handle each that they see/catch. Those interactions happen without you seeing them and meanwhile those that you see are not seen by the police who may be handling other issues.

Want to control the problem, fund more police to address the problem.

Most cops probably don't like having to pull people over in bad weather... they are the ones that have to get out of the car.

In your logic...
Murders & Rapes are far much worse than theft... we should leave the thieves alone and simply try to catch the worser criminals...

FTL!!!

You're applying his logic on traffic violations to violent crime?! Uh....

I didn't see that "logic" from him. He was ranting about how the laws are enforced selectively instead of uniformly. Some could say that this is due to a limited police presence, but OTOH there is no question whatsoever that the police do focus their efforts in on enforcing the law against speeding at the expense of the enforcement of all other traffic laws (except DUI). As speeding isn't even the leading cause of traffic collisions, it does bring up the question that the police enforce it for the revenue.

BTW, police depts. do follow your "logic" above. All the time. When they're not focusing on dimebaggers. My county sheriffs office, in its never-ending budget complaints, releases inmates convicted of lesser crimes early whenever it runs short on jail beds.

No Im not saying abandon speeders entirely but I want to see people getting tickets for this offense. I've never heard of nor seen someone getting ticketed for this. I see emmissions sticker checkpoints more often than I see anything like this.
