A teacher from our school got in a wreck with a train over the weekend

It is end of the school year and we had a senior assembly today. In the assembly we were told a teacher from our school had a car accident over the weekend and is in hospital. They didn't tell me the details. I found out that he got hit by a train after asking a few people. I went online to check if I could find any story on it and it looks like he's made the local headline on KOIN 6 page. This is just crazy.

I'm sorry to hear that, but at least he lived through the incident. Most auto vs train wrecks end in death.

Well I hope he gets better.

Thinking about this, just how does one get in a wreck with a train? Does the car stall on the tracks like in the movies? Or does the person think he can make it though without get hit? If he does think that wouldn't some simple reasoning tell you if you could make it? Or are most accidents happen where one is sitting for a light that happens to be at a train crossing. I can only see the last scenerio being the most likely one. But even with that one, could the person some how get out of the situation. I just don't understand.

That is one reason I keep a knife in my car... The odds of you stalling on a train-track are very low, and then the odds of the seatbelt being stuck are even lower, but just in case you want to be able to cut yourself out if you need to. What I don't understand are people that stall out on tracks, and keep trying to get their car started. I mean, come on... put the sucker in neutral, get out and push it off the tracks.

I had a buddy that went over a set of tracks, but not on a road, and got high-centered. That would suck.

What's the chances of that knife getting stuck and not flipping open? Then you'd be screwed. 🙂

That is what I consider to be a sign from God that my time is up. I'll make my final piece with him, and call it a day.

Although, the thing is he most likely didn't realize the train was there. Don't ask me how I missed it. I don't know beyond what's on the news.

Where I live there are a lot of RR crossings and I see people taking crazy chances all the time. At one intersection the cars back up at a traffic signal and people will pull right onto the tracks and wait. Now if a train comes, they have nowhere to go with cars in front and in back. Or they will race to beat the train to the crossing.

It's probably the stupidest driving maneuver I see on a regular basis, and that's saying something.

A 50-mph, mile-long freight train hitting a car is equivalent to a car running over a soda can. And trains are so large they look like they are moving slower than they really are. Why take a chance?

Of course, people get killed regularly, but it doesn't seem to register with the rest of the world.

Get out of the car & push it off the tracks?

How about get out of the car & get the fvck out of the way?

No car is worth losing your life for.

you sure? i mean some ricers would go and try to push it.

there are a few tracks that are no longer in use, i know that cuz they have been paved over on some roads but not all, there i would push.

I usually slow down for railroad tracks anyway, because they cause an unpleasant and possibly damaging thump when you drive on them too fast.

And if your car gets stuck on the tracks, and a train is coming, and if you get out of the car, - .... then you run like hell toward the train!!

Wow that's horrible......hope he pulls through. The passenger didn't though 🙁 Tragic 🙁

Hmmm......and who says larger vehicles aren't safer? Looks like a F250/350 Heavy Duty....Heavy Duty is fvcking right apparently.
