Hi all,

I am interested in getting a Tbred B cpu with an Nforce 2 Ultra 400 mobo. My question is, if I buy PC3200 ram that will run at 400mhz, can I just turn the multiplier down, run like a Tbred B 1700 or 2100 with a lower multiplier and higher FSB?

Also which chip would yuo reocmmend? 1700 or 2100?

Yes it is. Ask around/search this forum for Barton 2500+ o/cing. You'll find a lot of people running their Barton 2500+ at 11x200, 11.5x200 and everything else you could possibly imagine (INCLUDING STOCK!) :p

AWESOME. Can I run a retail barton at these speeds, or do I need to buy OEM and get a large ass heatsink and fan? I'll search now too btw! :)

you'll need a better heatsink than stock. as for the barton. people who are running it @ 2200 have a CPU roughly equvilant to a 1700+@2300 (200*11.5). to me personally, the VERY small performance gain does not justify the extra $35

Well...personally I would also say that the 1700+ @ 2.3GHz would be on par or a little bit slower than the 2500+ @ 2.2GHz. However, it seems as if the 1700+'s are falling short of supply. Time for 1800+ TBred B's to shine :)

benchmark have shown that the extra cache provides a 3-4% boost in performance so like i said barton @ 2200 Mhz approx. equals tbred @ 2.3. so why pay the extra $?
