Hi all,

The Radeons 9700 Pro 128MB and 9600XT 256MB are almost identical in price,
which would you choose?

Thanks!

9700 Pro ofcourse, it has almost double the performance of the 9600XT, and those 256MB rams are just for marketing

Radeon 9700 Pro, it is much better.

The 9600XT will barely make use of 256MB, the 9700Pro is 8 pipelines and 256 bit memory bus, 9600XT is 4 pipes and 128 bit memory bus.
The 9700Pro outperforms it, ignore the RAM amount, it means nothing with these cards.

Thanks for the input guys, I think I'm arriving at the conclusion that this might have been what cha call a "stupid question".

Can you tell I'm not well versed in vid cards?

Thanks again,

Ken

I wouldn't call that a stupid question. If anything it's stupid (or maybe smart?) marketing on ATI's part. People who aren't up on video card technology will probably jump on a 256meg card when they see it next to a faster 128, for basically the same price. It would seem a better deal to most right?

I was @ Circuit City last week looking @ 9800's and I saw a 256 meg 9200 card, scary :)
