Tale of two memories.
By total coincidence few days ago I had memory fail or in two old 939 Athlon 64 3200+ computers.
One computer has few Corsair 512MB pc3200, and one Module fail
One computer has few Mushkin 256 pc2700, and one Module fail
Both have lifetime warranty. After few years, I do not know where the receipts are. I may be a naive person but I assumed that when there is Life time warranty it should be honored when it can be proven that the none functioning devices is made by the respective Brand.
I went on line to Corsair, and Mushkin, and filed support reports.
Within two hours, I got a respond from Corsair with an RMA number asking to send the old Module, and within 3-5 days, they would send back a working memory.
I waited a day to hear from Mushkin, and then sent a second request.
They respond in few hours and asked for a receipt. I answered back explaining that that I do not have the receipt any more.
I also sent them a picture of the Memory Module, it is the Enhanced version Module, it has Heat-Spread with the Mushkin Brand embossed in the metal. Thus there is No question that this is a Mushkin memory and Not some unknown module.
In turn, I got a second email asking to pay $15 as a processing fee because I cannot produce a receipt.
I logged to Mushkin's site and found out that a new module similar to mine is sold for $13.99
If Muskin asks for the same $15 fee in case of a much more expensive Modules and keep the same fee for a less than $15 valued Modules it is at Best a none thinking Bizarre policy, or rather a general policy to find excuses Not to honor their commitment.
However, there is an additional disgust in the situation, they do not even check and mention that they sell a new Module for less than the processing fee.
Needles to say that Mushkin would Not see any more business coming from me.
To all of you Guys, run out and rent a space in a public storage, and make sure to keep all your receipts until Armageddon. :sneaky:
