A Switch?

I have one LAN cable going upstairs to my computer, however, I want to also connect my Xbox to my LAN. Can I use a switch to accomplish this? I dont' want to run 2 cat5 cables upstairs so I was thinking of hooking that single cat5 to a switch and then connect my comp and my xbox to that switch.. ?

Downstairs DSL modem ---> Router --> switch ---> my computer & Xb0x?

Yes, it should work. Make sure the switch you buy has a crossover switch or automatic crossover functions.

Maybe someone a little more awake can provide some acroynms to look for on the box...

- that's the auto-crossover feature that you want.

For the price (and even less) of this switch, you can buy Wireless Cable/DSL Router use it as a switch and have spare Wireless for a rainy day.
