mods...do you think we could have a rule that if you want to scream repost in a thread, then you have to quote the thread that its a repost of? Some of these people think its a game to call repost, even if its impossible to find using the search feature. Just a suggestion, it gets annoying reading a thread and seeing people mess up a perfectly good thread.

It does get kind of annoying, when they scream REPOST over something that was posted a whole year ago, which many have not seen.

Exactly, and the whole

R

thing gets old. It's a repost, so what? Some people don't know how to name threads properly, making searching impossible. There can still be good discussions on it. I think these are people who have no real contribution to the thread, but still feel they need to up their post count.

No, then it's demoted to Repost From Hell status. After a year, it should have had plenty of time to proliferate to their native AOL emails and chatrooms, although they might not have seen it between the "A/S/L?" "LOL!" and "OMG!!!1!"

Badly named threads only applies if you're not doing a full text search. Non-subscribers can't really complain that they can't search well since by design they can't. :)

It seems that both Forum Issues AND Off Topic are places one should search when you're looking for something about the forums. Not sure why, and I'd never blame someone for posting in THIS forum to ask a question even if it was posted in OT, since that's not where it should go.

The only repost claims I ever see are about news items that get posted 4 times in a day and then disappear. This happens with every other type of post as well though, people who won't even read through the whole list of threads on a page and find that someone else is asking the exact same thing. The critique my system posts are the worst, and should be a bannable offense. :)

Not necessarily true. Take the thread below from Hot Deals which was reposted
twice more because the title has two errors in spelling and the body has no information:

Hey, I'd support that. It's always the same group of people, too. Like it really takes six different people to let the poster know it's been said before.

Blatant neffage, if there was one.
Some of these people think its a game to call repost, even if its impossible to find using the search feature.
The exception should be if the original thread was badly titled, e.g. "OMG LOOK at THIS!", then given the new thread title is actually descriptive, the new thread should be left unlocked.

allisolm: Well, people who can't even spell the things they're talking about should be banned anyway. :) The downfall of humankind will be when someone misspells something that causes launch of all nuclear armament, because the person spent too much time online. :) Plus, people are always begging for spellcheck on the forums. I don't need it, but obviously some people do.

Oh, and posts with no content other than a link are something I complained about previously so I won't again. :)

A spell checker might be useful at times (like when one is replying to one of those threads about spelling or grammar, and the slightest mistake would get everyone's attention), but IMHO that is something that should go in the web browser, not in the forum software. :)

I dont mind someone telling me I have made a repost of a recent event... its the smart assed comments that usually come with it that get disturbing.

Its usually like the guy who flips you off for accidently cutting him off on the road when 99.9 percent of the time you are 10X the safe driver they usually turn out to be. People cant be perfect 100 percent of the time. A little respect goes a long way.

That is basically what I am asking for. Instead of just jumping in and screaming REPOST!!!!!, link to it so we know, or do it gently...you dont earn extra postcounts for calling repost

Exactly, one person does a perfectly good job of pointing out the fact that it has been posted before. Sh!t like quoting someone who says repost is simple neffage, it should be a bannable offense like in b4 the lock.

I was going to call them out on the quote in my post but the last time I challenged a Mod they locked me in the Mod basement and forced me to watch reruns of "The Mod Squad". BTW, anyone notice how hot Julie is?
